Broncos' Peyton Manning Won't Play Against Bears

(CBS) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will be sidelined for Sunday's game against the Bears, Denver coach Gary Kubiak told reporters Monday afternoon. Manning has a partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot, according to reports.

Fourth-year pro Brock Osweiler will make his first career start in Manning's place. Osweiler was 14-of-24 for 146 yards with one touchdown and one interception in relief of Manning in a 29-13 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Osweiler has never played a single snap of a first quarter in an NFL regular-season game, according to ESPN.

Manning had his worst day as a pro Sunday, going just 5-of-20 for 35 yards and being picked off four times. His quarterback rating was 0.0.

Northwestern product Trevor Siemian will serve as Denver's backup quarterback, as Manning won't dress.

Kickoff between the Bears (4-5) and Broncos (7-2) is noon Sunday.
