Isolated storms possible in Chicago Sunday evening before heavy rain moves in
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Following a gorgeous Mother's Day weekend, an isolated storm is possible late Sunday night, mainly northwest of Chicago.
Expect a dry start to the work week Monday, but a Weather Alert is in effect from 4 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday for periods of heavy rain that will cause inconvenience on the roadways and may lead to minor flooding.
A low-pressure system headed to the area from the southern plains is scooping plentiful moisture into the area while a backdoor cold front slowly slides in from the north. Warm, moist air colliding with this slow-moving boundary is expected to lead to numerous showers and thunderstorms -- some quite heavy -- late Monday into early Tuesday. Rain totals between 1 and 2 inches are expected, with isolated totals over 3 inches possible. Remember, never drive through a water-covered roadway.
Temperatures will be much cooler as rain exits on Tuesday, then warmer sunshine returns Wednesday.
Forecast

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms increasing late. Heavy rain. HIGH: 78
