Break-Ins Have Bensenville Residents On Edge

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in the western suburbs are warning residents about aggressive bandits targeting homeowners.

The burglars recently hit homes in Bensenville. CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports some homeowners caught them in the act.

Residents are making noise in a place used to a different type of clatter.

Within moments of CBS 2's arrival, a group of residents gathered to talk about what they've all talked about: break-ins

"In the last few weeks I've installed a security system," said resident Jack Riser. "I installed a 24 hour lighting system around my house."

Police sent out an alert to residents that on one day alone, January 13, they're investigating four residential burglaries, two successful and two attempted.

Police released an image of the suspected vehicle, a silver four-door sedan, possible a Chevy Malibu.

"The area is becoming really dangerous right now," said victim Greg Slowak.

His wife came face to face with a would be burglar.

"He was literally grabbing the door he trying to get in, so she saw him face to face," Slowak said. "Thank God she had a phone in her hand. She started screaming and said, 'I'm going to call' the cops and then he took off."

Into the darkness, under their streetlight that doesn't work.

The chief of police said there working on a number of incidents.
