Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson attends last board meeting as commissioner
CHICAGO (CBS) -- With just over two weeks to go until he becomes mayor, Brandon Johnson attended his last board meeting as a Cook County commissioner on Thursday.
There were lots of hugs, congratulations, and well-wishes from his colleagues during the sendoff.
Cook County Commissioner John Daley (D-11th) noted the momentum that Johnson's campaign built when he started out far from a frontrunner.
"You started at 2.5 percent, 3, and ended up mayor of the City of Chicago," Daley said, "That's a great accomplishment, and says a lot about you."
Johnson will be sworn in as Chicago's 57th mayor on Monday, May 15.
