Boy Injured After North Lawndale Shooting

(CBS) -- A six-year-old boy was injured after a shooting on the West Side Wednesday evening.

Chicago Police say the shooting took place at approximately 6:53 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Trumbull of the North Lawndale neighborhood.

An offender exited a light colored SUV and fired shots in the boy's direction. The boy was not hit, but suffered a small laceration on his hand. He was treated and released at the scene. Initially, police said that the boy was wounded.

People in the area described at least fifteen shots fired between two separate gunmen.

They say two teens may have been firing at one another while running down Trumbull. Moments before witnesses describe nearly a half dozen children playing outside.

People living nearby say it's fortunate the boy didn't need to go to the hospital.

Neighbor Theo Harney says the boy's parents were, "They were frantic, they just wanted to make sure that he was safe.

No one is in custody in connection with the gun violence
