9-year-old boy shot, killed at grandmother's birthday party in Franklin Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 9-year-old boy is dead after he was shot while at a birthday party for his grandmother in Franklin Park Saturday evening, police say. 

According to a release from the medical examiner's office, Ulysses Campos was fatally struck in the chest while in the 2800 block of Elder Lane. 

Franklin Park Police say around 10:15 Ulysses was playing near the alley with other children when about four to six shots were fired from a moving vehicle. Ulysses was the only person struck. 

He was transported to Loyola Hospital in Maywood but was pronounced dead. 

A person of interest is in custody, and Franklin Park Police and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force located the suspect's vehicle in unincorporated Leyden Township. 

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the event or who could provide surveillance video of the incident to contact the Franklin Park Police Department at 847-678-2444.
