Boy, 13, seriously wounded in South Shore shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 13-year-old boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the South Shore neighborhood around midday on Tuesday.
The boy was on the sidewalk in the 2100 block of East 71st Place outside of a Subway restaurant around 12:33 p.m. when he sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm and the right leg from an unknown offender, Chicago police said.
The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition.
Bullet holes were visible at the store still hours after the shooting on Tuesday when employees were still trying to clean up shattered glass.
CBS 2's Marybel Gonzalez spoke with one of the restaurant's employee who said they saw two individuals run into the store after the shooting, but it was unclear if they were with the teen or not. There was one customer inside the restaurant at the time of the incident but the employee said no one else was hurt.
"We were scared because the bullet, you don't know who it was going to hurt," said Moudou Touray, a witness to the shooting. "We were scared but we cared about the customer too. Thank God, the customer did not get hurt."
Touray said he heard three or four gunshots
Area One detectives are investigating. The restaurant turned over surveillance footage of the incident to police.
