Boy, 13, Dies After Collapsing In Basketball Game

(CBS) – A 13-year-old boy collapsed while playing basketball Wednesday at a Plainfield school and later died, authorities said.

Dramon Ratcliff of Bolingbrook was playing basketball at Plainfield Central High School when he collapsed, the Will County Coroner's Office said. The teen was rushed to the emergency room at Presence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Joliet and was pronounced dead around 8:30 p.m.

An autopsy indicated Ratcliff suffered from an undiagnosed cardiac condition. He attended Kennedy Middle School.

"Obviously this has been a very difficult day for the John F. Kennedy Middle School family and for District 202 as well," school system spokesman Tom Hernandez said in a prepared statement. "It is tragic any time a young person passes away, and we offer sincere condolences to Dramon's family and friends during this very difficult time."
