Boston Radio Host Blasts Erin Andrews In Inappropriate Fashion
(CBS) Fox Sports personality Erin Andrews has been a lightning rod for criticism for some time now, as some believe her looks have helped her ascend past more qualified and better candidates.
In a recent development, Andrews is again in the news after Fox promoted her to be the sideline reporter on its No. 1 NFL team, replacing 53-year-old Pam Oliver, who many regard as one of the best in the business. In a well-informed piece, 670 The Score's Dan Bernstein broke the issue down here yesterday.
On Wednesday morning, Boston sports radio host Kirk Minihane shared his opinion in a different, more volatile manner.
In an unfortunate and inappropriate comment on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show, Minihane went off the rails in addressing Andrews' in-game interview with Adam Wainwright, who earlier had told reporters he'd grooved a pitch for Derek Jeter before backtracking in comments to Andrews. She followed up by saying, "Don't you love social media?"
Here was Minihane's take on that interview:
"I hate her!" he yelled. "What a gutless b----! Seriously, go away. Drop dead. I mean, seriously what the hell is wrong with her? First of all, follow-up. Second of all, the guy admitted he did it. He admitted he told reporters he threw a couple of pipe bombs. How is that social media's fault? Seriously, I hate her."
While Andrews certainly isn't above criticism, that's about the worst way to dole it out, and it's elementary-level at best. It takes no smarts or insight to say any of that. There's been an online firestorm directed at Minihane, who will face a suspension or other punishment, you'd have to think.
