Body found in trunk of burning car on Chicago's South Side
CHICAGO (CBS)-- An investigation is underway in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood after a body was found in the trunk of a burning car.
CBS 2's Mugo Odigwe was at the scene all day piecing together what we know so far about this discovery.
They said they had no idea a car was found burning in this alley overnight or that a body was found in the trunk of that car, near South Parnell and West 37th Street.
Chicago police said the call came in just after 2:00 a.m. Both police officers and Chicago fire crews responded. When they arrived on the scene, they found a car on fire in the alley.
Fire crews were able to put out the flames.
However, during the investigation, a body was found in the trunk of the car. CPD said the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was a 15-year-old boy. The Medical Examiner's Office said the teen was shot in the neck and chest before being left in the truck of the car that was set on fire.
Right now it's not clear who the person is or exactly how they died.
