CHICAGO (CBS) -- Metra has suspended service on one of its main commuter lines running between the city and the western suburbs.

BNSF runs between Union Station and Aurora. Service was halted due to reports of hazardous materials near the Congress Park station in Brookfield.

From Metra:

"Inbound and outbound train movement remains halted near Congress Park due to potentially hazardous material near the tracks. At this time, Metra and the BNSF Railway do not know the duration of the delay and BNSF Railway riders should consider utilizing alternate transportation, such as the Union Pacific West, Milwaukee West and Rock Island District.

"BNSF riders are encouraged to avoid Chicago Union Station at this time. BNSF riders should closely monitor metrarail.com for BNSF service updates. All other lines to and from Chicago Union Station are operating normally but may experience some overcrowding."
