Blackhawks To Play In 2017 Winter Classic Against Blues In St. Louis

(CBS) The Chicago Blackhawks will be heading outdoors again next season, this time taking on the St. Louis Blues in the NHL's 2017 Winter Classic, the NHL announced Wednesday.

The game will take place on Jan. 2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. This will be the fifth outdoor game for the Blackhawks, who hosted the 2009 Winter Classic at Wrigley Field against the Detroit Red Wings as well as a Stadium Series contest at Soldier Field against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014.

"Playing the St. Louis Blues at iconic Busch Stadium is sure to add to the mystique of this intense rivalry," Blackhawks president John McDonough said in a statement.

In their most recent outdoor game, the Blackhawks fell 6-1 to the Wild at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in February.
