Blackhawks Stacking Regular Season Awards
(CBS) -- Friday, the National Hockey League announced a pair of honors for two members of the Chicago Blackhawks.
First, winger Patrick Kane was named the league's 1st Star of the Month for December. The award was Kane's second consecutive 1st Star of the Month honor. In December, Kane racked up 23 points in 14 games, helping the Hawks earn points in 11 of 14 contests. Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby and Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller finished 2nd and 3rd.
Later, goaltender Antti Raanta was named the NHL's Co-Rookie of the Month of December, splitting the award with Los Angeles goalie Martin Jones. Raanta allowed two or fewer goals in 10 of his 12 December games, and recorded his first NHL shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Kings on Dec. 30.
Along with Kane and Raanta's awards, Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith took home weekly award earlier in the season. Sharp was named the league's 3rd Star of the Week for the weeks ending Nov. 10 and Dec. 1, respectively. As for Keith, he took home 1st Star of the Week honors for the week ending Dec. 29.
