Blackhawks Sign Reserve Goalie Michael Leighton
(CBS) The Blackhawks have signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a one-year deal, they announced Monday.
The 33-year-old Leighton spent last season playing with the KHL's Donbass Donetsk club. Starter Corey Crawford and backup Antti Raanta will remain Chicago's top two goalies, and Leighton figures to be in the mix behind them and spend time with Rockford in the AHL.
Leighton had a 1.74 goals against average and a .934 save percentage last year with Donbass Donetsk. Leighton played for the Flyers from 2006-'07 and 2009-'13. He was in net in Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final when Patrick Kane scored the overtime winner to give Chicago the title.
Leighton was originally a sixth-round pick of the Blackhawks in 1999.
