Blackhawks Re-Sign Andrew Desjardins

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) While Andrew Desjardins wasn't in Chicago long enough for his new deal to be considered a hometown discount, the 28-year-old winger gained enough from his brief time as a Blackhawk in 2015 to sign at a fair price.

Acquired by the Blackhawks on March 3, Desjardins was re-signed on Friday for two years, the team announced. The deal was for a total of $1.6 million, according to a report from SportsNet, so it carries a cap hit of $800,000.

While Desjardins was working on a $750,000-a-year salary prior to this new deal, it was projected that he would receive a significant pay increase elsewhere. However, the former San Jose Shark decided to stay in Chicago, where he won his first Stanley Cup in 2015, as he turned down bigger offers from others, according to reports.

Desjardins served primarily as a winger on the Blackhawks' fourth line throughout their postseason push, playing in 21 games and recording a goal and three assists.

The Blackhawks will remain busy in the coming days to fill roster space, but retaining Desjardins is an important step.
