Blackhawks Place Jonathan Toews On IR, Activate Trevor van Riemsdyk
(CBS) In what was primarily a procedural move, the Blackhawks on Friday placed center Jonathan Toews on injured reserve as he continues to deal with an upper-body injury.
Toews was hurt in a Nov. 23 loss at San Jose and has missed the past four games. Toews' trip to the IR doesn't mean he'll necessarily be out much longer, as it was retroactive to Nov. 24, so he's already served the minimum time needed to return. Toews was a partial participant in Friday's practice and is still entertaining the thought of playing as soon as Sunday. Toews will miss Saturday's game in Philadelphia, he told reporters.
Moving Toews to IR allowed Chicago to activate defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk.
Toews has four points and eight assists in 21 games this season.
