Blackhawks' Kane Suffers Upper-Body Injury, Ruled Out

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Blackhawks' recent run of bad news continued early in the first period of Tuesday's tilt with Florida. Patrick Kane suffered an apparent upper-body injury and was ruled out for a return.

The injury occurred at the 7:49 mark of the first period as the Panthers' Alex Petrovic cross-checked Kane into the boards, with his left shoulder striking the boards hard. He skated off the ice favoring his left side.

Chicago would take advantage of the ensuing power play, as Jonathan Toews scored on Florida goalie Roberto Luongo to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. No word has been offered on the status of Kane.

Kane has 64 points -- 27 goals and 37 assists -- on the season, tied for the league lead with Washington's Nicklas Backstrom.

The Blackhawks are currently playing their eighth and final game of an extended homestand, one which has brought a 2-2-3 record.
