Blackhawks Fans Boo Mayor Emanuel At Stanley Cup Rally
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel was soundly booed Thursday at the Blackhawks' championship rally, and he didn't have to say a word do draw fans' ire.
The mayor laughed it off when the crowd of more than 75,000 Blackhawks fans booed after team president John McDonough thanked Emanuel for helping set up the massive celebration.
Maybe the crowd was upset that the rally wasn't being held in a larger venue or just voicing general displeasure with Emanuel or following a longtime tradition of booing politicians at major sporting events. Maybe they were upset the mayor was mentioned before they got a chance to hear from the players.
Regardless, Emanuel simply flashed a smile as the rally continued. Perhaps most of the fans were suburban voters.
It was a much chillier reception than the mayor received in 2013, when he actually spoke a few words of congratulations to the Blackhawks.
