Blackhawks Considering Building $30M Practice Facility On Near West Side
(CBS) The Blackhawks have explored the possibility of building a $30 million practice facility on the Near West Side, according to a report from Crain's Chicago Business.
Team owner Rocky Wirtz told Crain's that he started "putting the numbers together" for a facility that would be about 70,000 square feet. It would potentially sit just northeast of the United Center and across the street from a practice facility currently under construction by the Bulls, Crain's reported.
Wirtz said a main benefit of the facility being there would be to promote the sport to the franchise's growing youth fan base.
More from Crain's:
Having more space available "would be great for youth hockey in the city," Mr. Wirtz said. "The suburbs all are well-off, but the city really needs more ice surface" for hockey leagues and related sports, he said.
