Bishop Ford Reopens After Police Investigate Suspicious Package
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois State Police shut down the Bishop Ford Freeway in both directions for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon, after finding a suspicious package on the roadway.
Police said a suspicious package the size of a briefcase was found on the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 94 near 157th Street shortly before 1 p.m.
Traffic was shut down in both directions while the Cook County Bomb Squad responded.
Police said all lanes were reopening as of 2:20 p.m., but the investigation was ongoing.
Traffic appeared to be moving smoothly as of 2:25 p.m.
Police say the device was an, "an encased vehicle tracking device" and poses no threat.
