Bipartisan Panel Calls For Immigration Reform
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A bipartisan panel of political powerhouses is saying that comprehensive immigration reform is coming, despite some stumbling blocks, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Mayor Emanuel told the Chicago Council on Global Affairs that finding a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants was not only the right thing to do and good politics but economically wise.
"Just shy of 45-46 percent of all new small businesses are by immigrants. So if you are pro-small business, you have to be pro-immigration reform," said Emanuel.
Republican Adam Kinzinger, seated to Emanuel's right, said action may not come until before the political primaries but must come.
"In my party as Republicans there is a lot of concern out there. There is some misinformation. What do we have to do? I think one of the keys is to understand the reality that a growing economy and an economy with new people is how we are going to be strong into the future," said Kinzinger.
