Biden To Speak On Sexual Assault Prevention At University Of Illinois

URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech at the University of Illinois on preventing sexual assaults on college campuses.

According to the White House, Thursday's talk is expected to highlight the "It's on Us" campaign President Obama kicked off last year. The president's initiative began as sexual assaults on college campuses became a frequent topic of news coverage.

Biden has been a longtime advocate for strong laws against sexual assault and domestic violence. As a U.S. senator he sponsored the legislation that in 1994 became the federal Violence Against Women Act.

Biden will speak to students and others at a campus recreation center in Urbana.
