Betty Loren-Maltese Holding Estate Sale To Help Pay Daughter's Tuition For Beauty School
(CBS) -- Betty Loren-Maltese, the colorful former Cicero town president who spent more than six years in federal prison, is having an estate sale.
Beauty school will cost $16,000 and Betty Loren-Maltese says she wants to help her 18-year-old daughter Ashleigh with her tuition, so Loren-Maltese is having an estate sale.
She says some stuff - like the political memorabilia - will be hard to part with. Other things - like ceramics she made behind bars.
"It's kind of like I'm glad to sell them," she said. "Because it reminds me of being in prison."
She says the preparation for the October 9 and 10 sale has left her exhausted - and emotional.
"Even one day, Ashleigh came over to me and she hugged me and she apologized and said, 'I'm so sorry you have to go through this.'
"But no matter what, there are so many people worse off than us. And that's really why I don't complain."
Loren-Maltese is not selling her trademark wigs. She's already donated many to cancer charity.
But her eyelashes?
"I think I have a few brand-new eyelashes in boxes (for sale) because I don't wear them anymore."
