Bears' Wilson Has Golden Chance To Nab No. 3 WR Job
(CBS) With the recent release of Earl Bennett, Marquess Wilson has the inside track to nab the Bears' No. 3 receiver job, and coach Marc Trestman is optimistic he can make the most of the opportunity.
"He showed that we can work with him and develop him," Trestman told the Chicago Tribune on Sunday at the NFL owners' meeting. "He's got the football intelligence that we're looking for and the ability to be flexible within the offense. He was consistent. So we'll see how it goes. We're not anointing people at this point in time. He's going to have a chance to compete and be a part of what we do after Alshon (Jeffery) and Brandon (Marshall). We'll see how it goes. We've got a long way to go, but we like (Wilson) and we're excited about him to develop him and work him."
Wilson played in 10 games as a rookie for the Bears last season, recording two catches for 13 yards. He'll have competition for the No. 3 receiver job from Domenik Hixon, who the Bears recently signed to a one-year contract.
