Bears Sign WRs Edwards, Spurlock, Terminate Hixon Contract
(CBS) In an effort to bolster the competition at receiver, the Bears have signed wideouts Armanti Edwards and Micheal Spurlock, they announced Tuesday afternoon. Chicago also terminated the contract of vested veteran receiver Domenik Hixon with an injury settlement after he tore his ACL last week and was expected to miss the entire season.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Edwards has six receptions in his four-year career, in which he's appeared in 41 games in stints with Carolina and Cleveland. He's also previously returned punts and kickoffs.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Spurlock has 46 receptions in his seven-year career, which has seen him play for seven teams, most recently with Detroit and Dallas last year. He also has previously returned punts and kickoffs.
Hixon was expected to push Marquess Wilson for the No. 3 receive job. Edwards and Spurlock will now try to take on that role, though Wilson clearly has the inside track for now.
The Bears also waived linebacker Tana Patrick, who signed last month as an undrafted rookie out of Alabama.
