Bears Linebacker Leonard Floyd Suffers Right Knee Injury

By Chris Emma--

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Second-year Bears pass rusher Leonard Floyd suffered what appeared to be a serious injury to his right knee during the fourth quarter of a 27-24 loss to the Lions at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Coach John Fox speculated after the game that it was a "fairly serious" injury, though the extent wasn't immediately known at the time. He will provide an update Monday afternoon at Halas Hall.

Floyd was carted off for further examinations after a lengthy evaluation on the field. The play occurred early in the fourth quarter as cornerback Kyle Fuller inadvertently dove into Floyd's right leg. He immediately clutched the leg in pain. Fuller also suffered an injury to his wrist on the play but later returned.

Teammate Pernell McPhee was among those especially shaken up over the injury, offering a message as the cart prepared to take Floyd away.

"I told him I love him," McPhee said. "I'm going to lay it on the line for him. That's about it. I told him God's got him."

The Bears are thin with depth at outside linebacker without Floyd. Willie Young was placed on injured reserve in October after suffering a torn triceps muscle, and veteran Lamarr Houston was released from the team in September.

Now expecting to be without Floyd, the Bears will be counting on McPhee, Sam Acho and rookie Isaiah Irving at outside linebacker.
