Bears' Jared Allen: 'Quit Doing Dumb Stuff And Get It Corrected'
By Chris Emma—
(CBS) Mentality is an important factor for a football team enduring struggles.
The Bears are 0-2 after Sunday's 48-23 loss to the Cardinals and are set to travel to Seattle next Sunday for a meeting with the defending NFC champion Seahawks (0-2). But that shouldn't bring the feeling of doom and gloom.
"This league can change so fast," linebacker Jared Allen said. "Games can change so fast. Seasons can change so fast."
Following Chicago's Week 1 hard-fought loss to Green Bay, running back Matt Forte referred to how there was no "stupid look" on the sidelines. On Sunday, linebacker Pernell McPhee suggested the Bears "kind of laid down" after Jay Cutler suffered a strained hamstring in the second quarter.
Sunday brought a game that got out of hand for the Bears, with sloppy quarterback play after Cutler's injury and 170 yards of penalties.
Against the Cardinals, the Bears' defense also couldn't get off the field and struggled to get stops, combined with the penalty woes.
"Quit doing dumb stuff and get it corrected," Allen said. "You know your job and then make plays."
Further tough news come for the Bears late Monday afternoon when ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Cutler will miss at least two weeks. That puts Jimmy Clausen in line to start at Seattle after he struggled in a 14-of-23, 121-yard, one-interception performance against Arizona.
Still, the Bears have plenty more than the quarterback situation to get figured out before then. Depth is certainly a challenge, and some starting spots aren't safe, either.
Trying to keep a positive demeanor, the Bears are looking ahead to their next challenge and trying to avoid an 0-3 start.
"Enough has been said about it," Allen said. "We just need to go out and win a football game."
