Bears Await Word On Tillman's Triceps Injury

(CBS) Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman left Sunday's 28-20 win at San Francisco in the third quarter with a right triceps injury and didn't return. It was the same triceps in which Tillman suffered a tear last year that ended his season after just eight games.

The extent of the injury isn't yet known, but Tillman was extremely emotional on the sideline, shedding a few tears as teammates walked up to console him.

"I don't know anything about the injuries right now," Bears coach Marc Trestman said late Sunday night.

The 33-year-old Tillman is a two-time Pro Bowler who is third in Bears history with 36 interceptions. With Tillman out, rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller took on a bigger role and made a pair of crucial interceptions.

Tillman is working on a one-year contract with the Bears.

For now, all the Bears can do is wait and hope for the best.

"I hated it," linebacker Lance Briggs said. "I told him that I really hope for the best once he gets his tests done. We had a lot of guys go down today, hopefully they are minor and we can move on from there."

"He's one of the reasons why I came here, having that corner," defensive end Jared Allen added. "He's a great guy, he's a great teammate, he's very dependable and accountable. If we lose him, that's a huge blow, but you saw what Kyle did with this opportunity, and we're going to expect him to play at the level that we're accustomed to having out there, and his first test was a great one."

Tillman wasn't the only Bears defensive starter to leave Sunday's game for good. Defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff left with a concussion, and safety Chris Conte left with a shoulder injury.
