Bears' Alshon Jeffery Feeling 'A Lot Better'

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- As a competitor, Alshon Jeffery is desperate to get back on the field.

The Bears' top receiver, Jeffery has only played in Week 1 this season, missing the last four games with injuries to his calf and hamstring. He's keeping from frustration while working to get back.

"Everything happens for a reason," Jeffery said.

On Thursday, Jeffery worked in a limited fashion, alongside fellow receiver Eddie Royal, marking the second straight day he has practiced.

Jeffery's status for Chicago's game in Detroit on Sunday remains up in the air, and he couldn't predict whether he would play.

"We're a couple of days from Sunday, so we'll see," Jeffery said. "We'll evaluate it. We'll see what the coaches say and see how I feel."

While Jeffery did admit that he feels "a lot better" than last week, he will most likely be listed as questionable to play, once again.

The Bears aren't ready to make any predictions on whether Jeffery will be on the field in Detroit.

"I wish I knew, but I don't know," Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said.

For Jeffery, the hardest part of being injured is not being able to join his team. The Bears have received contributions from Marquess Wilson and Cameron Meredith while Jeffery and Royal recover from injuries, but Jeffery wants to be on the game field, too.

"(I'm) just wanting to be out there to help my teammates," he said. "I just want to play."

Extra points: In Thursday's practice, the Bears were without linebacker Shea McClellin (knee), cornerback Terrance Mitchell (hamstring), defensive lineman Ego Ferguson (ankle) and safety Antrel Rolle (ankle). Meanwhile, receiver Josh Bellamy (groin), offensive lineman Patrick Omameh (ankle), defensive lineman Will Sutton (elbow), linebacker Pernell McPhee (shoulder) and Royal (ankle) were limited.
