Bargaining Continues Ahead Of Teacher Strike

CHICAGO (CBS) – The Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Public Schools met Wednesday for a regular meeting to discuss and negotiate the possible strike next week.

A 40-member bargaining team, consisting of union leaders and members of the school boards sat at Union Hall in Chinatown for most of the day, sources told CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker.

No details of the talks were shared, but sources described the negotiations as very long and exhausting. More negotiations are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

All members have been told to prepare to meet over the weekend, including Monday, the Columbus Day holiday.

If teachers do not have an agreement by Monday, they will not postpone the strike date of Oct. 11. Teachers are prepared to walkout on Tuesday.
