Baffoe: Let's Mock Dumb Reactions To The Seabrook Hit
By Tim Baffoe-
(CBS) -- Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook unleashed a dirty hit Saturday on David Backes of the St. Louis in Game 2 of their playoff series. Backes was defenseless, and his head was targeted, making the hit not only cheap but dangerous. Furthermore, the resulting penalty put Chicago at a man disadvantage and led to St. Louis scoring with just 6.4 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, where it would soon score for a 4-3 win and 2-0 series lead.
The hit was not cool, and fortunately most Blackhawks fans didn't endorse it, even against a team so hated as the Blues. It didn't motivate the team or rally them or do any of the other archaic mythical things violence in hockey supposedly does for some people. Instead, it worked only to hurt the Blackhawks immediately and hockey as a whole in the long run by continuing to give it a reputation as a goonish game which it so often is not.
Seabrook is now suspended the next three games for his dumbassery, as he should be, even if we are to believe him when he says he thought Backes had the puck. Still, of course, there's a segment of society that is permanently concussed and doesn't understand why Seabrook has been disciplined at all and even endorses the hit. So let us walk into the valley of the shadow of idiocy so that we might point and laugh, shall we?
Head injuries in sports aren't beautiful. They're awful, in fact, and the NHL PR department is trying to overcome steakbrains who enjoy seeing other people have their lifespans compromised.
Not sure why Seabrook got suspended for his hit on Backes, #greathit

Think I may have found you a special life partner right above you, ma'am.
Seabrook suspended three games and lucic only find 5k. Why is one head more important than the other? Bad call #NHL. #GoWings

I in no way condone sticks to the junk (nor do I think it's smart to defend that garbage or publicly wish for more nut shots because of some warped misandry). And besides your bad double entendre, $5,000 for Lucic's cowardice is too little for my taste. Thing is, he posed no threat to the livelihood of another player, so there is really no comparison. Now go work on better sophomoric jokes.
"And the angel answered and said unto the women, 'Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Seabrook, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is suspended, as he said. Come, see the place where the Blues lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is prevented from the games; and, behold, he goeth before you into Alsip; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.' And they departed quickly from the rink with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his shirseys word. And as they went to tell his Griswold jerseys, behold, Seabrook met them, saying, 'All hail.' And they came and held him by the skates, and worshipped him. Then said Seabrook unto them, 'Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Elmwood Park, and there shall they see my autograph. And trade Crawford.'" – Matthew 28: 5-10
I don't know why seabrook got suspended
— Nathan Mang (@TherealNatemang) April 20, 2014
Can we every really know, man? Can any of us truly ever be suspended? Or what if we're all always in some state of suspension, like, cosmically? Have you ever looked at the eye on the dollar bill?
Come on Backes, suck it up! Toews does when he gets hit. You dish it out and you have to take it buddy! pic.twitter.com/QBrXUpD0op

Toews missed the final six games of the regular season because of a hit he took.
Brooks Orpik did not leave his feet, nor did he target Toews' head. This isn't difficult.
BUT WHY ISN'T THERE A TOEWS HISTORY MONTH, HUH?
Keith, by the way, may have mocked the clearly injured Backes by saying "wakey, wakey" afterward, which is cute.
Right? I'm all for random violence against people I don't like, and I should be able to enact pain on others I don't care for without punishment. That's just basic logic in a civilized society. Step into my shed of medieval lawn tools, please, Skip Bayless …
I dont see why Seabrook should get suspended to hit, I thought it was clean #Blackhawks
— Daniel Greenberg (@ChiSportUpdates) April 19, 2014
Clean to the neck and skull. Why aren't we suspending barbers then? They've had it far to easy, if you ask me.
I'm going to coin the phrase "seabrook him" whenever I want to see someone get hit hard

So not a hitter with a .669 OPS then.
Player safety : softness :: using leeches to balance the humors : toughness
WHY IS IT OKAY TO SUSPEND SEABROOK FOR THREE FREAKING GAMES
— camel poodle (@camillepaskind) April 20, 2014
I WANNA RIDE GOLIATH AT SIX FLAGS THIS SUMMER OMFG
— camel poodle (@camillepaskind) April 20, 2014
That one's presented without comment.
Seabrook should not be ejected. hits like that happen its part of hockey. Why does every sport want to take away the physical aspect now?
— Jack O'Neil-Como (@comokazi) April 19, 2014
First they came for the physical aspect, and I did not speak out because…
"Let the players play" yet Seabrook is suspended for 3 games for something that wasnt even bad. Yeeeeeah makes sense @NHL
— Antwaan 2️⃣6️⃣ (@swaggiesurfing) April 20, 2014
LET THE PLAYERS COMMIT ASSAULT. THAT'S PART OF THE LETTING PLAYERS PLAY. IT SCORES THE POINTS AND STUFF. FASCISTS.
Unpopular opinion: Seabrook's hit wasn't that bad. I wouldn't have been mad if he wasn't suspended.
— Tyler McCoy (@NotTylerMcCoy) April 20, 2014
Any thought as to why that opinion is unpopular, iconoclast?
Am I the only one who thinks Seabrook's hit wasn't as bad as ppl are making it sound
— Matt Cofrancesco (@mcofran6) April 20, 2014
No, the guy above you with the always creative "not" before his name in his Twitter handle has your back, bruh.
Happy Birthday to Brent Seabrook.Screw everyone saying he's a dirty player. It was not dirty. It just ended bad bc of how Backes was standing.
