Small child abandoned in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A baby was found abandoned near an elementary school in West Town Tuesday afternoon.

Police said at 3:48 p.m., the baby girl was found in the 1800 block of West Ohio Street.

Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy is located on the block.

Dispatch audio indicated that someone had contacted the police and told them someone had "dumped a one-month-old baby on the street." 

The baby was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital by officers. Her condition has not been released Wednesday. 

CBS 2's Marissa Perlman reports the baby is now in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services. Early reports show the baby is less than a year old.

She was found near an elementary school during a busy time when parents picked up their students from Talcott Elementary School nearby.

The baby was found on the West Side just before 4:00 Tuesday afternoon off of Ohio street.

Dispatch audio shows someone found the baby, called police, and reported a one-month-old child dumped on the street and they waited for police to arrive.

The baby was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital by police.
