Authorities Search For Missing St. Charles Man

ST. CHARLES (CBS) -- A search for a missing west suburban man was unsuccessful Saturday after his car was found in a forest preserve parking lot near St. Charles a day earlier.

More than 125 searchers along with K-9 units and a helicopter combed the woods and a pond in Otter Creek Wetlands until about 4 p.m. for 46-year-old Dane Haggerty, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.

Haggerty's wife called for help after he didn't return home from a business trip Friday, and a St. Charles Park District officer found the man's car in the wetlands' parking lot at 6N850 Crane Road, sheriff's police said.

No foul play is suspected, but Haggerty "may have harmed himself," police said.

The search was expected to resume Sunday on a "more limited" scale, sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Patrick Gengler said.

The 6-foot, 215-pound St. Charles resident has brown eyes and hair, and he was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt with khaki pants. Anyone with information should call police at (630) 232-6840.
