Aurora To Receive New Christmas Tree After Wind Damaged The Original

CHICAGO (CBS) -- After the first one was damaged, the city of Aurora is getting a new Christmas tree.

Some time next week, a 40-foot pine will be delivered to the same spot downtown where a 43-foot tall Colorado blue spruce was knocked over by strong winds earlier this month. WBBM's Nancy Harty reports.

Aurora's Director of Communications, Clayton Muhammad, said like the original, the second one is being donated by a local family who volunteered it from their yard.

He said the owner of Imperial Crane Services in Bridgeview heard about the damage and offered to deliver a new tree for free.

It will be decorated with some of the lights and ornaments salvaged from the first one.

Muhammad said the city will announce exactly when the new tree is going up as soon as crews are done repairing the site.
