Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Field Near Aurora Airport

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A small plane made an emergency landing Thursday morning in a field near the Aurora Municipal Airport.

Aurora police said a Remox GX two-seat single-engine training airplane began experiencing a mechanical problem shortly after taking off from the airport around 7:15 a.m.

The pilot declared an emergency, and turned back to the airport, but was forced to make a soft emergency landing in a nearby bean field before reaching the runway.

Police said the instructor and the student on the plane were able to walk away without injuries.

The plane had minimal damage and was taxied back to the hangar.
