Aurora city employees honored for saving baby's life
AURORA, Ill. (CBS) -- Two Aurora city workers received a big honor Tuesday night for jumping into action to save a young child.
They got an MVP award from the Aurora City Council for their heroism.
Josh Elrod and Daniel Chavez work for the Aurora Water & Sewer Division. They were going through an average workday last week when they heard a mom screaming from a nearby hours that her 1-year-old son couldn't breathe.
Chavez and Elrod ran right to the yard down the block to help. The mother did not speak English and Elrod does not speak Spanish – but Chavez interpreted and communicated with the mother in Spanish as she held the lifeless baby.
Chavez started CPR before paramedics arrived, and Elrod called 911.
When paramedics arrived, the baby, Julian, was breathing again and crying.
Julian and his mom were at the City Council meeting where Elrod and Chavez were honored. Through an interpreter Tuesday, Julian's mom thanked God for putting Elrod and Chavez in the right place at the right time.
