At South Deering Church, An Image Of The Virgin Mary Seen In Tree
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some residents in South Deering say they see the Virgin Mary.
CBS 2's Mai Martinez went to check it out in this Original Report.
St. Kevin's has served South Deering Catholics for 135 years, but these days, it's something behind the church that's drawing the faithful.
"She's gorgeous. She's beautiful," said Maria Tellez, referring to an image of the Virgin Mary she and others see in a tree.
A church member first noticed it a couple of years ago, but only said something to others this past Friday.
"I see her praying like you know, like she's bending down praying and she's praying for all of us," Tellez explains.
Photos capture the detail, but the faithful say nothing compares to seeing it in person.
"I couldn't believe it," said Faye Torres. "I think it's a miracle."
News of the Virgin Mary's appearance is spreading fast, and every day more and more people are coming to see it for themselves
Church members say it's been a hidden treasure for too long, and now they want to share it with the world.
"Everyone's welcome; that's what she's here for," said Rita Paloma.
