Four men shot inside adult entertainment venue in Chicago's South Loop
CHICAGO (CBS) — Four men were shot inside an adult entertainment venue in the South Loop overnight.
Police said the shooting took place after a fight inside the Deja Vu Showgirls, at 750 South Clinton Street, just after 3:30 a.m.
The Chicago Fire Department said three men were taken to Stroger and Northwestern hospitals in fair condition and a fourth man was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition. The victims ranged in age from 26 to 35 years old.
No arrests have been made. It was unclear what led up to the shooting.
Witness Luke Zapolski described "chaos" at the scene as he left a nearby train station.
"There's dozens of cars, police cars just flying down the street, there were sirens everywhere, there's people screaming and running out of the club," he said.
Another witness, Jasmine Conner, said she heard shots fired as she was exiting a bathroom.
"I ran back upstairs or whatever, came back down, seen somebody shot on the floor," she said. "In the midst of them being shot on the floor, we tried to help him."
She added the club was so crowded that it was difficult to tell where the shots came from.
Ald. Jason Ervin (28th), whose ward includes the Déjà Vu club, said his office would work with Chicago police "to address the ongoing issues at this location," including a possible summary closure order that would require the business to remain closed until it provides an approved plan of action to address safety concerns.
"He'll work closely with the community, CPD, and others to ensure public safety is prioritized," Ervin's office said in a statement.
Later Monday, CBS News Chicago found a sign posted on the business saying it had indeed been shut down by Chicago police via summary closure. Earlier in the day, the owner of the venue said he had planned on reopening Monday night. After the summary closure sign was posted, he came out to look at it, went back inside and said nothing.
The document on the business said the owner has three business days to request a hearing asking the mayor to determine whether a public safety thereat occurred.
It wasn't the first time a shooting took place near Deja Vu. Last November, a security guard was escorting somebody out of the club around 4 a.m. when he was shot by a person who drove by in a black Tesla.
