At least 8 people killed in Chicago weekend shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least seven people were killed, and another 11 were wounded, in shootings in Chicago this weekend as of Sunday, according to police.

The victims ranged in age from 16 to 49.

Friday

The first shooting of the weekend left one 16-year-old boy dead and two others wounded in the quiet residential neighborhood of Arcadia Terrace at 6:57 p.m. Friday. A witness told police a black sport-utility vehicle went by in the 5600 block of North Rockwell Street, close to Hollywood Avenue, and someone inside shot the three teens.

One of the boys suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was rushed to Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he died.

Another was shot in the shoulder and was in serious condition at the same hospital. The third was shot in the knee and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was in fair condition.

Also Friday evening, at 8:40 p.m., a 48-year-old man delivering food was approached by another man who tried to rob him in the 1400 block of North Austin Boulevard in the North Austin neighborhood. The victim refused to give up his money and tried to run off, so the would-be robber shot him in the ankle.

The victim was rushed to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was in fair condition. The shooter ran off, police said.

Saturday

  • At 12:47 a.m., a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were shot by an unidentified person in the 1700 block of West 71st Street in West Englewood. The woman was grazed in the back, and the man was shot in the back and arm. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition.
  • At 2:31 a.m., a 34-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his body in the 400 block of West Division Street on the Near North Side—in the area of formerly occupied by the Cabrini-Green public housing development. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A man was also found with a gunshot wound about an hour and a half earlier a block and a half to the north, in the 400 block of West Evergreen Avenue, but police said this wound appeared to be self-inflicted.
  • At 4 a.m., an 18-year-old man was walking in the 300 block of East 57th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood when three people pulled up next to him in a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle and began shooting. The victim was shot in the shoulder and self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was in good condition.
  • At 10:40 a.m., a 44-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 2900 block of South State Street, in the area of the Dearborn Homes public housing development. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died.
  • At 3:26 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 4300 block of West 25th Street in Little Village, and found a 49-year-old man outside with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was pronounced dead soon afterward at Mount Sinai Hospital.
  • At 6:38 p.m., a 16-year-old boy got into a quarrel with someone who took out a gun and shot him in Ogden Park, at 65th Street and Racine Avenue in Englewood. The victim was shot in the chest and legs and was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital.
  • At 8:09 p.m., a 29-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 3500 block of West 73rd Street in Chicago Lawn when two men came up and shot him. He was wounded in the back, buttocks, and arm and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
  • At 10:20 p.m., police were called to the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue in Little Village, where they found a 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the thigh. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where his condition was stabilized.
  • At 11:05 p.m., officers responded to a person shot in the 1100 block of North Keeler Avenue and found a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim said he was standing in the courtyard of an apartment complex when he heard gunshots and felt pain. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Sunday 

  • At 1:55 a.m., officers found a 30-year-old man shot in the back of the neck after crashing his rideshare vehicle in the 900 block of East 91st Street. Police said he was shot while driving by an unknown passenger, causing him to crash into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  •  At 5:42 a.m., a 29-year-old male was standing on the corner in the 1300 block of South Fairfield Avenue when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and someone from inside began shooting. The victim heard the shots and felt pain in his right hand. He self-transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition. No other injuries were reported.
  • At 8:37 a.m., two men were found unresponsive inside a Jeep Cherokee in the 12300 block of South Halsted Street. The victims appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds throughout their bodies and were pronounced on the scene. Their ages were not released.
  • At 4:59 p.m., a 19-year-old man was found shot multiple times in the 2800 block of South Kedzie Avenue. A 19-year-old woman self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg in good condition and a 20-year-old man also self-transported to the same hospital with multiple gunshots in critical condition.
  • At 4:16 p.m., a 43-year man was approached by an unknown male offender in the 1100 block of West 63rd Street and shot. He sustained a graze wound to the leg and was treated and released at the scene, refusing to be taken to a hospital. The offender was taken into custody and charges are pending.
  • At 6:45 p.m., a 29-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg and groin area in the 5600 block of South Laflin Street. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
  • At 9:45 p.m., three teens were shot in the 200 block of West Pershing Road. A 15-year-old female victim was shot in the leg and was listed in good condition at Comer Children's Hospital. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the upper back and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition. A 17-year-old girl was shot in the left arm and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11 p.m., a 12-year-old girl was in the passenger side of a vehicle when shots were fired in the 2500 block of West Division Street. She was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to her leg. 
  • At 11:24 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot inside an apartment building in the 6200 block of South Calumet Avenue. Police said the man was an employee in the building and got into an argument with another man. The 22-year-old was shot in the ankle and taken to University of Chicago Hospital.

Monday

  • At 12:10 a.m., a 20-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 8100 block of South Ingleside Avenue in Chatham, when a vehicle approached and someone exited and fired multiple shots toward him. The victim was shot in the right foot and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 12:55 a.m., a 29-year-old man walked into St. Bernard Hospital in Englewood, having been shot in the left forearm at an unknown location. The man was in good condition, and he refused to answer any questions and was very uncooperative with officers about the incident.
  • At 12:23 a.m., officers were called for a person shot in the 6400 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, in the area known as O Block that includes the Parkway Gardens housing development. They found a 28-year-old man who had been shot in the back, and who was taken to UChicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 2:57 a.m., officers responded to shots fired in the 7500 block of South Peoria Street in Auburn Gresham, and found a man who had been shot in the right leg. He was taken to the UChicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 3:30 a.m., a 29-year-old man was in the alley behind the 5900 block of South Michigan Avenue in Washington Park when he heard shots and felt pain. He was shot in the neck, and was taken to UChicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 4:28 a.m., a 33-year-old man was driving in his vehicle in the 3500 block of South Wallace Street in Bridgeport, when someone approached and fired shots in his direction. The victim was shot in the back and self-transported to Insight Hospital & Medical Center in good condition.
