At Least 14 COVID-19 Cases Linked To Volleyball Leagues In Gages Lake
CHICAGO (CBS)-- The Lake County Health Department is warning residents of several COVID-19 cases linked to adult volleyball leagues that competed in Gages Lake this month.
According to health officials, at least 14 people, who played or watched volleyball at Jesse Oaks Food and Drink in Gages Lake in September, tested positive for COVID-19.
Jesse Oaks Food and Drink is still open, but the volleyball courts out back are closed for 14 days.
"Of these cases, multiple people reported that they also played volleyball at other bar/restaurant locations, which could contribute to further spread of the virus," Lake County officials said.
The Lake County Health Department said the business has been cooperative and when it reopens the courts, it'll be required to follow all state guidelines.
But in a county with 16,960 positive cases and 464 deaths, it is taking this cluster seriously.
CBS 2 spoke to the owner off-camera and he declined to comment.
Infected individuals have been asked to notify close contacts. Jesse Oaks has suspended all volleyball activities for 14 days.
The Lake County Health Department is asking anyone who played volleyball at Jesse Oaks in September to quarantine at home for 14 days from your last game and get tested for the virus.
The health department is also asking that if you visited Jesse Oaks in September and did not wear a mask and consistently maintain six feet of distance from others to quarantine at home for 14 days from your last visit. And if you're still in that quarantine period to get a test.
