Assault Suspect Arrested After Barricading Himself In Dolton Home
DOLTON, Ill. (STMW) -- A man suspected of armed assault in Indiana barricaded himself for nearly five hours in a south suburban home before surrendering to authorities Tuesday evening.
About 1:30 p.m., U.S. marshals went to the home in the 14800 block of Irving Avenue in Dolton to interview the man, who is wanted in Indiana, according to Dolton Police Chief John Franklin.
The man's girlfriend went outside and told the marshals he was in the attic with a .40-caliber pistol, Franklin said.
Dolton police were called when the man refused to come out, and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team arrived with a SWAT team about 3 p.m. to assist in negotiations, he said.
The standoff lasted until about 6:15 p.m., when officers pumped pepper spray into the home and the man crawled outside and gave himself up to authorities, Franklin said.
No one was hurt, police said.
Franklin said charges are pending against the man, who is in U.S. marshals' custody.
The Indiana town where he is suspected of armed assault wasn't immediately known, Franklin said.
