Army Probes Death Of Alaska-Based Soldier From Chicago Area

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) -- The U.S. Army is investigating the death of an Alaska-based soldier from Illinois.

U.S. Army Alaska officials say in a release that 24-year-old Sgt. Okan Murat Cetinbag of Morton Grove, Ill., died at an Anchorage hospital Tuesday evening after being removed from life support.

Officials on Thursday said his death was from injuries he sustained Feb. 7 at his home on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

Special agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are looking into the circumstances of Cetinbag's death. No other details, including cause and manner of death, are being released at this time.

Cetinbag joined the Army in January 2013, and was assigned to the Anchorage base five months later. He previously served with the U.S. Marine Corps, and had a combat tour of Afghanistan in 2010.
