Arctic Air Returns Tonight
CHICAGO (CBS) -- We're getting as sick of saying it as you are of hearing it this winter, but temperatures will dip below zero tonight, at least the 23rd time that's happened this winter.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory from midnight Tuesday night through noon Wednesday, as temperatures are expected to reach a low of 3 below zero overnight. The record low for Feb. 26 is 1 below, set in 1963.
With winds of 10 to 20 mph, wind chills could reach as low as 20 to 30 below in some areas.
Expect a repeat Thursday night, when temperatures again will dip to about 2 below zero. That would break a record that has stood for 130 years.
If the forecast holds true and we get two more days of below zero temperatures this week, that will be 24 days this winter the mercury has been below zero. Chicago hasn't had that many subzero days in a single winter since 1981-82.
The record for most subzero days in one winter in Chicago is 25, set in 1884-85.
