Archbishop Cupich Visits Sick Kids At Lurie Children's Hospital

(CBS) -- Chicago's archbishop spent part of his Christmas Eve with sick children and their families who can't be home for the holiday, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.

Calling Christmas the season of children, Archbishop Blase Cupich talked with patients at Lurie Children's Hospital and compared those with little money to the Christ child. Cupich says that he hopes his visit shows the kids they are not alone.

"We let these young people know that their suffering is not in isolation," he said. "There are people who care for them, who love them, who walk with them in this moment."

Cupich says he was also there to reassure the parents.

"They, in fact, many times suffer just as much or even more than their children and I think that we have to keep that in mind," he said.

The archbishop also reached out to hospital staffers who he says have their hearts broken whenever a child dies, like two did just Tuesday.
