Archbishop Cupich Choosing To Live In Holy Name Rectory, Not Cardinal's Mansion
(CBS) -- In a break with tradition, Archbishop Blase Cupich announced he will not be moving into the Cardinal's residence and instead will live in the Holy Name Cathedral rectory.
The mansion on State Parkway was built in 1885 and has been home to all of Chicago's archbishops and has hosted a pope and two future popes
WBBM's John Cody talked with noontime churchgoers, who overwhelmingly support the decision.
Mary Floyd sees moving into the rectory as walking in the path of the new Pope and that, "It will send a message that Catholics should reach out to those less fortunate and be involved as much as they can with helping others in the community."
Dominic Sartino said it will put the bishop on the level of the rest of the people. But his wife Rose said she's seen Rome and said it can afford the splendor of the mansion, so why not?
Archbishop Cupich will take over for Francis Cardinal George as Archbishop of Chicago on Nov. 18.
