CBS 2 joins the United Way for April Food Day to curb food insecurity

CBS 2 partners with the United Way for April Food Day

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It is a massive operation meant to help families struggling with food insecurity.

Thursday is April Food Day and CBS 2 is proud to partner with the United Way to help. CBS 2's Marie Saavedra is on a trolley traveling to pick up food with volunteers and making a stop at Nazareth Academy.

CBS 2 and the United Way join forces for April Food Day

Cans and boxes of food favorites. hundreds of pounds of it are all being collected today to help Chicago area families put food on the table.

April Food Day: Marian Catholic High School

"April Food Day" is a food collection event that United Way of Metro Chicago that supports the south suburbs of Chicago. This event goes to stock our local pantries ahead of the summertime event. Typically during the summertime, they see low donations. We do this so they meet the need they have," said Maya Hardy Regional Director of Development, South and Southwest for United Way of Metro Chicago.
