Anticipation Grows For Mass Release Of Police Shooting Videos
(CBS) -- Video, audio recordings and documents relating to Chicago police-involved shootings are set to be released Friday -- part of a push for more transparency.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.
"I'm so glad and grateful that these videos are coming out," Karen Winters says.
Winters says she and her family fought to see video in the police-involved shooting death of her great-nephew, Pierre Loury. Police say the teen pointed a gun at officers, when he was shot.
Winters says the video does not support that stance.
Also considering the release of the materials a good thing is Dr. Arthur Lurigio, a criminology and psychology professor at Loyola University in Chicago.
"It's an important step forward in an effort to restore trust between the police department and minority communities in Chicago," he says.
Lurigio says officials next need to determine a protocol to release videos and documents on a routine basis.
