Alderman Says Preliminary Results Of Survey Split On Whether Or Not To Move Pride Parade Downtown

(CBS) -- The alderman who conducted a survey on whether the Gay Pride Parade should be moved says he has some very preliminary results.

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) had a 15-question survey on his website about the Pride Parade.

Last Friday was the last day to take that survey.

The focus: Whether the parade should be moved out of Boystown and out of the North Side and relocated downtown.

Tunney tells WBBM that "on first blush, it's 50-50... split down the middle."

In other words, half want the parade to stay where it is, in Boystown, and half want to move it downtown, most likely to Columbus Drive.

"There's a lot of people who want it to stay and there's a lot of people who think it belongs... downtown," Tunney says.

Tunney says his staff is going over the surveys and he'll share the results with police and OEMC and other alderman.

This year's parade was marked by arrests - and residents and bar owners complained about unruly crowds after the parade - crowds that many said police did little about.

Tunney has already said he's open to moving the parade.
