One Dead, Two Critically Hurt In Dan Ryan Crash On South Side
CHICAGO (STMW) --One man died and two others were critically hurt in a crash Wednesday afternoon on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side.
Two people were standing outside of a car that was stopped on the left side of the highway at 79th Street, when another vehicle crashed into it. One of the vehicles flipped over into the traffic lane, where a third car hit it, according to preliminary information from police.
Pedro M. Rico, 23, of the 2300 block of North Marmora Avenue, was one of the people standing outside of the parked vehicle, and he later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Two people were taken to Stroger Hospital a third to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs. All three were in critical condition.
All northbound lanes of the Ryan were closed and traffic was being diverted onto 79th Street, but were reopened as of 4:05 p.m., police said.
