80-Year-Old Woman Pushed To The Ground, Robbed In Lincoln Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An elderly woman was robbed and pushed to the ground Tuesday evening in the North Side Lincoln Park neighborhood by two suspects, one who may have been as young as 12.

At 5:18 p.m., two male suspects approached the 80-year-old woman in the 1400 block of West Altgeld and pushed her to the ground, according to Chicago Police.

The two suspects were captured on camera just moments after they allegedly attacked the woman. CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez has more from the scene.

Residents told CBS 2 they saw two young suspects run down an alley with what appears to be a purse in hand, after police say an 80-year-old woman was knock to the ground and robbed.

Their faces are blurred in the video because they are believed to be juveniles, one as young as 12-years old police said.

"Where are the parents that these children are out harming people," said Marilyn Brown.

"Well my mom is turning 80 in November and that's disgusting. It really it hurts your heart," said Gigi Lubin.

Residence in this Lincoln Park neighborhood say they have had enough.

"I live right down the street and there's so much crime in the area. We're constantly scared," Lubin said.

CBS 2 did notice surveillance cameras all over the neighborhood. But residents are wondering if that is enough

"How are we the elderly, because I am one of them, how can we protect ourselves from strong children who want our money," Brown said.

Officers searched the area on Tuesday but did not find the suspects, police said. Several residents handed their security video over to police.

Alderman Brian Hopkins told CBS 2 said the videos have led to some good leads. He also confirms an uptick in crimes in the neighborhood, but said he already put in for additional patrols.

One of the suspects is described as a black male with a dark complexion, between 15 and 21, about 5-foot-7 and 140-159 pounds, police said. The other suspect is described as a 12- to 16-year-old black male, about 5-foot-4 and 120 pounds.

Area North detectives are continuing to investigate.
